Food & Civil Supplies Minister Imran Hussain on Thursday ordered suspension of two Fair Price Shops (FPS) following a surprise inspection to check the compliance of guidelines and norms by FPS dealers for delivery of Specified Food Articles (SFAs) to the ration card holders. (SUBHEAD)
The Department is responsible for effective implementation of National Food Security (NFS) Act, 2013. The Act provides for entitlement of four kg wheat & one kg rice per unit under PR category; four kg wheat & one kg rice per unit along with six kg sugar per card under PR-S category; and 25 kg wheat, 10 kg rice and six kg sugar per card under AAY category.
Retail issue price fixed for wheat and rice is Rs. 2/- per kg and Rs. 3/- per kg respectively. Retail issue price of sugar has been fixed at Rs.13.50 per kg. At present, more than 72.78 lakh beneficiaries are covered for drawing ration as per entitlement in Delhi.
The Minister personally visited FPS in East Delhi area. During the inspection, irregularities were noticed in two FPSs. The Minister directed the Department for taking stringent action against the concerned FPS dealers as per law, including suspension of shops, as mandated under the provisions of law.
Mr Hussain reiterated the commitment of Delhi Government for making available wheat, rice and sugar to the ration card beneficiaries in time and in specified quantities. The Minister also directed the Department to ensure that all the prescribed information regarding FPS Dealer, food articles, FPS opening and closing timings, complaint/grievance mechanism etc. is displayed on the boards of all FPS.
Mr Hussain also directed that no laxity will be accepted on the part of erring FPS dealers. He also asked senior Department officers to carry out similar surprise inspection in other parts of the city as well.
